St. Theresa's Catholic School is seeking Substitute Librarian for the current year for PK3-8th grade.  The position is expected to begin mid-January and end mid-May or at the close of the school year.  The Substitute Librarian will also be responsible for: 

1. Teaching one middle school elective course (meets twice per week).

2. Facilitating middle school explorations book club.

3. Conducting a school-wide book fair in the spring. 


Job Summary

The Substitute Librarian fills in for the school librarian in their temporary absence. The Substitute Librarian follows the plans, guides, provided by the librarian and works with classroom grade level teachers to lesson plan for grade level library time and ensure continuous alignment with grade level curriculum and instruction.  This position reports to the principal.

  • Support and adhere to the Standards of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school.
  • Follow instruction set by classroom teacher with logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum.
  • Provide appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning.
  • Practice positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom.
  • Maintain current and accurate records according to school policies.


  • Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of instructional methods/strategies and curriculum differentiation
  • Able to work well with others in the school community
  • Ability to manage student behavior in classroom setting.
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously

Minimum Qualifications


  • Master's Degree in Library Science or Bachelor's degree in subject taught from an accredited American university or equivalent in a foreign country.


  • Classroom management experience. 
  • Classroom teaching experience.
  • A substitute teacher who will have responsibility for a class for 50% or more of the grading period should have the same qualifications required for the regular teacher.

Certifications and Training:

  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCB ED.
